Musings about my blog in the new year
I want to post a bit more on my blog this coming year. Probably about various coding projects I’m playing around with and maybe a little bit about homeschooling. I just find it hard in the moment to jot things down so I can do a post about it later. So I think I need a better workflow on taking notes, with the intent to polish it up to a post.
Secondly, I’ve played around a lot with themes this year on my blog. I don’t think I’ll ever be one to commit to a theme or style but there are a couple of things I want to hone in on. One thing I’ve been meaning to do it a “print” theme. I think it would be cool to do one so I can save my entire blog to a pdf and then print it out if I’d like.
The other theme idea I’ve been thinking on, is how to make my blog more interactive. I have the beginnings of an old school RPG plan where you explore my blog (as a character) and “find” the post. It’s still in the very beginning stages. Something on the lines of using the URL as an identifier that can then be used to seed a level. You can wander around, face little monsters, and go on the hunt to find the blog post. Lots of different angles to consider. I’d leave the RSS feeds intact for those who read my site that way and I’d probably have an archive page that isn’t gamified in any way.
But working on that may run counter to #1. Blogging a bit more. But, writing a little game engine from scratch in vanilla JS and figuring out the mechanics sounds fun. I have a little bit started already. If you are viewing my blog on a desktop and click the background image, it starts a little game screen and you can move the little character around using the arrow keys. (I hope at least.) And that’s it. I don’t even have walls working ๐
Anyway, not sure if I’ll get to any of that. Or if any of that makes much sense (everyone in my house is fighting a cold and I’m exhausted). But that’s where my mind is at.
